Spartan Recruiting
Michigan
State has been known for taking slimly recruited players and developing them to
an elite level. Some examples are Jerel Worthy, Darqueze Dennard and Kirk
Cousins. All three were two stars out of high school, all three are currently
in the NFL. Recently, as the Spartans increased success, the level of recruits
increased as well. East Lansing is now a home to some of the top recruits out
of high school. In 2013, the Spartans posted the 35th ranked class in the
nation and this year, improved to 29th. To do this, the Spartans
signed one 5 star and six 4 stars. Among these players are 3 ESPN top
300 recruits and the top fullback in the nation. The jewel of the class is
defensive end Malik McDowell. At 6'7" and 290 pounds, he plays
with blazing speed that made him the best player in Michigan and the
second best defensive end in the nation. The better caliber players increase
the potential of future MSU teams, helping them establish themselves as a consistent
powerhouse.
